What is ego?
Ego is a construct-a conglomeration of responses which, at a very early age we come to consciously identify as “self”. It is not the all expansive self that we experience when we die; but it is created from this awareness. Indeed, since this awareness is All That Is, where else could ego come from?
Without this thing called ego, we couldn’t even eat a carrot on this earth plane. In my opinion, even if you accept on a mental level that ego is not the ultimate reality, you still function through it while in the body; otherwise you could not function at all.
Indeed, the more we fight against the ego the more it clamors to be heard. The main reason the ego gets such a bad rap is that it is infused with emotions which we are learning to transform (fear, shame, guilt, self-hate, etc). The way to transform these emotions is to acknowledge and fully love them. This doesn’t mean we have to act from them or indulge them; but once we lovingly accept them as part of our humanness, it is amazing how quickly they dissolve into the underlying, all encompassing magnificence of being.
