The Sapling Tree

THE SAPLING TREE

One day while travelling, rambling free

I came upon a sapling tree

Said I, “My friend so small and fair

What thoughts for living can you share”?

“I am a frail and fragile tree

The winds and rains, they buffet me

I yield my body to the gale

Resisting not…I do prevail.

My roots go deeply to the earth

The hallowed mother who gave us birth

My branches are lifted by day and by night

Expressing the Oneness and sweet delight

I have no need for toil you see

Content am I to simply be

Though I wear the costume of a tree

My essence is Divinity”.

“Oh Holy, Holy, Holy tree

Your gentle wisdom comforts me

How may I learn to simply be

What is the secret of the tree”?

“Step ye lightly on the land

Give of your grace to every man

Resist not tempest, gale nor storm

Live from substance, honor form

Still your mind to set yourself free

Let let your heart soar heavenly

Feel the earth rise through your feet

That sacred grounding where they meet”

I dropped my body to one knee

And touched the branches of the tree

I felt the force that makes it be

The selfsame force that flows through me

“Oh Holy, Holy, Holy man

I know that now you understand

That I am you and you are me

That was the secret of the tree”.
